Russia has many very wonderful things. I love this country and I am learning to call it home. However, there are things here that make me sad. Recently someone was telling me that over half of the babies delivered in the hospital are left in the hospital. For whatever reason the parents decide they don't want their child or are unable to care for their child. They do not however reliquish their rights. They are basically condeming these children to life in an orphange because they can not be adopted. I talked to my language helper today and she said it is normal here. I don't know that 50% is the normal percentage but it is common to leave your baby in the hospital.
I'm saddened for these families.
